Resolved Question: What is happening with my Golden Retriever?

11 years old, great health, takes thyroid meds and this week has started slipping on the floor and being suddenly startled by normal things. For instance, he leaned over his water bowl and jumped back like it was a snake. Then a minute later he drank. I reached out to pet him and he jerked back and one minute later was OK. It's almost like he's having mini stokes or something. Could it have something to do with his thyroid?

Resolved Question: Has anyone ever heard of a place called Rainbow Bridge because it is a real place?

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for every of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable every of the animals who had been sick and old are restored to health and vigor and those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are glad and content, except for one tiny thing, they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind They every run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster You have been spotted, and when you and your special pal finally meet, after so long a time, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The glad kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Resolved Question: How long will my cat be okay alone?

I will be gone wed. Morning to sun eve, and I don't have anyone nearby who will check in on my kitty. I've called a couple of kenels and aside from being expensive, they make no promise my kitty won't "catch something" a few months ago..I left my furry baby alone for 3 days with enough food and water for a week. And I bought an enourmous kitty box. And.. When I can back home she was fine! Not upset, no mess nothing. She still had tons of food and water. I always leave the AC on 70 degrees. She's about 8 yrs old and has no health problems. Any thoughts? Also.. I've looked into "pet sitters" in my area and none are bonded, I don't feel comferble having a stanger in my home who isn't going promise not to steal or break something...

Voting Question: Cat lovers, how much would you spend for your pet's health?

Our 11-year-old cat just had an ultrasound for over $600. The cardiologist said that she'll need another ultrasound in about 6 months, for another $600. How much are you willing to spend for your cat? I adore our cat, but I'm skeptical about a) the reliability and trustworthiness of the diagnosis by the vet and b) the reliability that medication and procedures will actually have the desired effect. How much would you spend on your cat? $2000? $5000? $10000? How confidant are you that the medical procedures and drugs are even working? We've already spent several times more on the cat than I have ever spent on myself for medical reasons (I'm 30). At what point do you simply cease spending the money and simply focus on giving the cat a calm and comfortable life? That cat has a heart murmur, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (thickened wall muscle of heart), enlarged heart (LV posterior and right ventricular)

Resolved Question: Black lab sneezing blood, constantly itching, and breathing heavily.?

I'm Pet sitting for 3 months for an older black lab. I have been with her for 1 month. Before the family left her to me, they took her to the vet and everything checked out. She was in great health. She has arthritis and had a little bit of an ear infection left that cleared up with the relax of her medication 3 days after the family left. I have noticed that she itches herself a lot and pants quite a bit. It is very hot where we are, but stays pretty chilly in the home. Lately she has been itching a lot more. She also started to sneeze blood yesterday. Big huge sneezes and drops of blood fly out of her nose. I would take her to a vet, but I am pet sitting her in a foreign country while the family has left to go over seas. Any one know why she may be doing this and what I could try before having to take her to a vet?

Open Question: How much time does a condo & their attorney have to contact you about allowing you to have an ESA?

In May my doctor gave me a letter to give my condo's office for me to have an Emotional Support Animal (ESA). The office told me it needs to be written by someone who deals with mental health. So in the start of June my other doctor typed a letter & had it co-signed by a physican so that there mental & physical health is covered. After that they waited (bought time) & I was told that they need the date since in their care as well as the doctors credentials. So my doctor typed up another letter adding the date & both their credentials. Soon after I was told that their attorney is looking over it. My question is much time can the condo board & their attorney take/buy before getting in touch with me about it considering that a docors note for an ESA trumps any "no pets" policy? Is there a time limit for them or can they prolong it for as much time as they please? Do I need to wait for a go ahead or can I just receive my ESA? By the way I live in S. Florida. Please help, thank you.

Resolved Question: Do you think the repetitiveness of questions in the LGBT section happens in other sections?

you know how we always receive the "am i gay?", "how do i know if he/she is gay?"questons ad nauseum. well, do you think it happens in other sections too? for instance, could you look the pregnancy section getting "how do i know i'm pregnant?" every day. or the pets section getting "why does my dog rub his butt on the carpet?" or the men's health section "is my penis big enough?" or the politics section "mccain or obama?" what are some repetitive questions you've encountered in other sections? lets make it a game do you think there's a Y!Answers soul out there that's actually searched for archived questions to receive their answers? omg, i just did a search on "am i gay?" on the Y! Answers archive and got over 200,000 hits. no wonder people ask instead of researching. that's a lot to sift through Betsy C- i'm fully aware of the irony in my asking this question. this is more for the benefit of seeing what other "repeaters" people might not look if they don't go out of LGBT.

Resolved Question: Would you like Gecko with your egg's...........?

Cook finds gecko in chook egg 15May08 EGGS-CEPTIONAL: Dr Peter Beaumont with the fully-formed gecko he found inside a supermarket-bought egg. Picture: JULIANNE OSBORNE A silent Sunday dinner has turned into an eggs-traordinary mystery. Dr Peter Beaumont, 60, was cooking Thai fishcakes for dinner when he found a fully formed gecko inside an egg shell. He believes the discovery may be a world first and may help solve a food poisoning puzzle. "I was cracking the eggs into a pan when I noticed one of them was every cloudy. "I looked at the shell and saw a tiny gecko.'' Dr Beaumont said the lizard had not got into the shell after he had discarded it because the reptile was embedded between the inner-shell and the egg's membrane. He said the gecko may have crawled into the chicken to feast on an embryo -- and got stuck. The egg then formed around the lizard. "If you open up a dead chook, you sometimes look the partly-formed eggs,'' he said. "The gecko could have been looking for a feed and got trapped.'' Dr Beaumont said eggs sometimes contained salmonella, a potentially fatal food poisoning often carried by other lizards. "Maybe this happens every the time,'' he said. "Maybe geckos regularly crawl inside chickens for a feed. "And this one was unlucky enough to receive stuck in an egg.'' Dr Beaumont bought the egg from a Darwin supermarket. Resolved Question: I need some advice on training and money wise? (what about giving a good brush, walk and bath?) Please help!!!

I am 14 and have groomed and worked with MANY dogs before. I need to earn some money so I was wondering I fi could make a card like a babysitting card or dog walker etc like that only grooming just around my neighborhood for a very tiny charge. I would have every my info and experience on the card, in walking distance to owner of dog I groom. I will need allergic and skin irritations (including if on meds or structure status of dog) before grooming. I would need information on tick or flea treatment and will need to know dog's behavior/temperament before grooming. I would include, 2-4 brush cycles along with bathing with special puppy and dog coat conditioning, deodorizing and shampoo for sensitive skin according to which I am grooming. I would also include teeth cleaning from every naturals and safe edible and easily digestible glue made especially for pups/dogs. I will NOT include the trimming of coat (unless it is between pads and/or dog has feathers on hocks) nor nails. I would also use safety precautions (IF NESSICARY) such as muzzling the dog for both the safety of each individual. I would add that I cannot be held accountable for ANY health defects after grooming as every information was needed to be provided before grooming. I'll will also list every the products I use on dogs and will have who’s dog I groom visit the premises of where I groom and how (it is not a facility, just in home groom). My prices; $2.00 For regular 2-4 brush cycle $3.00 For 2-4 brush cycle + Trimming pads or feathers. $4.00 For 2-4 brush Cycle + Teeth cleaned $8.00 For 2-4 brush cycle + trimming and Teeth clean. $10.00 For regular 2-4 brush cycle (repeated) with bathing and dry with cleaning of the ears. $12.00 For regular 2-4 brush cycle (repeated) with bathing and dry with cleaning of the ears, trimming OR teeth clean . $15.00 For regular 2-4 brush cycles (repeated) with bathing, dry with cleaning of the ears + trimming and teeth clean. If there are certain things you’d like to leave out or add and I confirm or agree I can lower or set prices to advantage. Extras I have to offer: I can walk your dog at side for 15-35 min. Which will cost $5.00 extra, and I can also offer $10.00 half hour training sessions with positive and praising techniques on YOUR schedule. Arrange a time each day for a week (week day)5 days only at a time. (Will not help on Weekends) If training does not set a better companion for you, have your money back! (I have taken classes one on one with a professional trainer and am entitled to many positive techniques. I have trained my Aussie in only two weeks to sit, stay, arrive, down, crawl, silent, off, heel and settle in the ONLY two weeks that I have had him! He is only 9 months.) If you don't feel comfortable, arrive and watch me work with my possess puppy to have a better understanding. When I train I DO NOT take your pet in hand, you have to handle your possess dog and I will handle mine. By showing you the technique I use from my possess trainer on my dog I will help you do the same on yours. When these training sessions are in action YOU NEED to have your dog in hand at every times. I will warn right away that I am NOT licensed as a trainer and am only trying to help you with what I already leaned by my trainer and my possess research. I am not goofing around and I am serious on helping you and your dog understand each other and for him/her to take your commands and do them willingly. (This is what I would say on my card if I make one)

Voting Question: Gerbil shoulder hair loss, knowledgeable answers only please?

I know to most a gerbil is just a 'pet', but my two Pepper and Jack are our little family members. They are 1 year old, and in perfect health, always have been. Although I am calling the vet tomorrow after work, it is still after work at 3pm. Jack has developed a bald patch on his back, between what seems to be his shoulder blades. I have not noticed excess itching, but I am sure he must be, because the skin is a little tore open this evening. Which leads to my first question, what can i put on that so he can cease itching/avoid infection, if anything at every. His eyes and nose are clear, no notice of nasal discharge or eye. His temp seems to be where it should be. Their cage is cosntantly cleaned, and is always clean, is this sudden hair loss a cause from parasites? Does anyone know what is going on with my dear Jack? Pepper is just fine, no signs of hair loss or nasal/eye discharge. Is there a possibility this hair loss is caused by Pepper? He sleeps ontop of Jack always. Okay, they are totally not doing it. Seriously..they are both male as I got them from a breeder. Sounds gay, but I like having good pets. The breeder, is currently MIA3 months plus. So asking the first simple person I know TO ask..can't. But yeah, the boysss are not mating.

Resolved Question: Am I paying too much for my Aussie if only pet quality?

They are asking $800.00 for a blue Merle Australian Shepherd with 1 or two blue eyes, (eyes havent opened yet) who is most on the smaller side. AKC and NSDR with first shots, 1 year gaurentee for health abnormalties, parents have had eyes checked and have been OFA tested and are both good + asking a non-refundable deposite to be put down on the puppy. They are only pet quality, not champion bloodlines or sired or anything. + The owner would be willing to steer out 1 hour to meet us for pick up. I do believe this is a good deal but my dad thinks the opisite. I have already rescued, and considered a rescue but none match what I am looking for so Now I am searching for a pure puppy that I can start a new with.

Open Question: This is not so much a question as it is info about harmful things for your dogs?

The following is a link to a couple of articles as to what is harmful to your dog's health, such as chocolate, gum, rat poisons, etc. There always seems to be denial with the harmfulness of chocolate to dogs. It absolutely is toxic and anyone who doesn't think so is doing your dog more hurt than good by giving it to them. Chewing gum is also harmful...this is a newer revelation. It is only certain kinds with certain ingredients in it. Please take care when giving your animals "treats". Your "kindness" may be killing them instead. http://blogs.dogster.com/vet_blog_information_advice/protect-your-pet-from-three-common-poisons/ Please click on thelink over for more information

Voting Question: Have you read this article about Nutro Dog Foods?

By Lisa Wade McCormick ConsumerAffairs.com June 23, 2008 • RECALL LIST • Consumer Complaints A series of mysterious illness and death dogs Nutro pet food. Scores of pet owners report their animals became sick while eating Nutro products, then recovered when they were switched to another brand. At least six dogs have died in the past two months, according to an analysis of complaints to ConsumerAffairs.com. The company discounts the reports, saying they are isolated and unconfirmed; at least one Nutro employee, sickened by the company's response, told us she resigned. In related developments, ConsumerAffairs.com has learned: • The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently investigated the April deaths of two dogs in Indiana . The FDA tested samples of the Nutro food those dogs ate, but did not find any toxins. No one, however, has tested the Nutro food the other dogs ate before they died; • A pet nutrition specialist for Nutro confirmed she's heard complaints about the company's food making dogs and cats sick. She reported those concerns to her supervisor, but said they were ignored. She recently resigned; • There is a shortage of some varieties of Nutro dog food. The company says this is a supply problem – not a safety or quality issue; • Some consumers have sent their pets' food to Nutro for testing. They have not received any results. Other pet owners plan to hire private labs to test their food and report their concerns to the FDA and the Animal Poison Control middle run by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The six dogs that recently died include two Italian Greyhounds in Indiana , a Beagle/Whippet mix in Pennsylvania , two German Shepherd puppies in North Carolina , and a Doberman Pinscher in Texas . The dogs' owners every say their pets were in good health and they're convinced that Nutro's food is somehow connected to their animals' deaths. Those concerns are echoed by pet owners whose dogs and cats have recently become sick after eating the company's food. Nutro, however, defends its products and says the food is 100 percent safe. But scores of pet owners across the country -- including longtime Nutro customers -- no longer feel safe feeding this brand of food to their dogs and cats. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/nutro.html http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2008/04/pet_food_recalls93.html

My cat is a nearly 6 year old brown tabby, spayed, with no known health problems. There are no other cats or pets in the household. I've looked at every of those "decoding your cats tail" type websites but none seem to describe the way she carries her tail. The closest description is that a cat who hold its tail straight up (perpendicular) to its body is "glad." When she walks her tail is curved completely upwards, exposing her whole... behind... with the tail curved almost flat (parallel)against her back. Is there something wrong with her tail, or is she just a really glad cat? :-)

Resolved Question: Does pet health in America bother anyone else?

So, if you've seen my previously posted questions, I've had a really sick dog, and have taken her to the vet twice. Today was the second time I had to take her. She got an xray, some motion sickness pills, and they gave her some fluids. They wanted 400 dollars just for that. I almost lost my mind. The day before I had taken her into another vet and he charged me 100 for an exam, and a shot of penicillin. What's crazy, is when I had my pet neutered, it only cost me 80 bucks by using a doctor off the humane society website. So besides the point that I think it is WAY to expensive for pet care, I also found out that Vets in my area (California) do NOT except payment plans. It's cash, or credit. I asked the doctor what someone who cannot afford to pay every the money upfront do about a sick animal and he shrugged his shoulders. I just feel like there has got to be a better solution to this problem. I know there is pet insurance, but most people (such as myself) had no idea about it until I was researching methods of help (in case my dog needed surgery). Does this bother anyone else? Thanks for the well wishes, she seems okay I guess now. They didn't find anything or give me any answers btw, that's what is also bothering me.

Resolved Question: Does anyone know what brand(s) of kibble had salmonella?

I know that salmonella should not hurt a healthy dog so that is not my concern - it is that people may be at risk from their pets' 'safe' food. I read this last night on The Whole Dog News Blog "Contaminated dry dog food source of an outbreak of Salmonella By admin on May 16, 2008 in Dog News The Latest Poop, Dog Nutrition NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Contaminated dry dog food was the source of an outbreak of Salmonella infections affecting people in 19 states, public health officials report in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, a publication of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This investigation, the first one to identify dry dog food as the source of human Salmonella infections, demonstrates that dry pet food may be contaminated with Salmonella and be an below-recognized source of human infections, especially in young kids, the investigators say." I wish the people who try to tell me that 'raw feeding' is dangerous because of the contamination risk would read this article!!! My response to the 'danger' statement is "Always wash your hands after feeding your dog and don't play with or eat dog poop".

Resolved Question: Question about a pet Conure and children's health?

We got our son a really cute baby Conure a couple of weeks ago. He's adorable and very friendly though he like to nip a lot. He's getting really used to us and loves to be talked to and wants a lot of attention which he's getting a whole lot of. My only concern is that I generally like to keep a clean and sanitary home but everyday the bird likes to take a couple of baths by dipping his entire body in the water bowl and then shakes it every off which splashes water around the surrounding area. Now his water bowl is generally clean but sometimes it is not (his droppings). Do I need to worry about my little kids accidentally walking on it or when I don't look it in time to clean it? Is the water considered unsanitary and unsafe to their health??

My Great dane is a 3 yr old female. She is way overwieght. I only feed her the recomended amount of food for an adult great dane. She is eating high quality pet food. (Eagle pack) I walk her but its not working. I know to much exercise with her being this big could cause health problems but walking isn't working. Does anyone that knows the breed have any sugestions? P.S. She does have a vet appointment next week.

Resolved Question: Where did you get your cat/kitten?

My family wants to add a kitten to our lives. We have two dogs and are homing our son's young cat for a year. We possess our possess home, our youngest child is 16, every our pets are neutered/spayed and up to date on health care and vaccinations, but I keep having "issues" with Humane Societies, shelters, rescues, etc! One accidentally adopted our kitten to someone else after we had waited two weeks for it, another turned us down because one of our dogs is a chow mix (it is NOT an aggressive dog), another because we lived in a different county. I would like to support the local shelters and rescues, but am getting worn out. We have a record as responsible pet owners, and these shelters claim these pets need to be saved, rescued, rehomed...but the way they are treating us is making us think "pet store".. Do you think we are automatically a "bad risk" because we have a dog that may have some chow in his backround? We adopted him from a shelter 5 years ago, and his parentage is uncertain.

Resolved Question: Should I buy Dingo bones for my puppy?

Okay, she's a GSD and Rottweiler mixed puppy. I want to buy her these Dingo bones but am a little hesitant with every these warnings and recalls of bones. I'm planning to go to PetSmart to buy some . . . Are these bones (the ones I attached a picture with) okay? By the way, are they just called "bones"? Just curious. And what are they "usually" made of? What else will be a good bone to buy for her? I just want to buy something that's SAFE for her to eat and not a danger to her health. http://www.pet-store.net/assets/images/W16146.jpg http://www.petdiscounters.com/mc_images/product/detail/d_1922.jpg

Resolved Question: letter from a doctor to keep my dog for health reasons?

I was recently evicted from an apartment building for having a pet dog. I was aware that there was a no pet policy in place, but I suffer from depression, and one of the things that really helps is being close my pug dog. The landlady felt bad asking us to leave (she knew about the dog the whole time), but someone from the company's head office saw me with the dog one day and that is how I got BUSTED! Someone told me that you can receive a letter from a doctor saying that you need a pet for health reasons (mental or otherwise)? I have recently started counselling and will be meeting with a new psychiatrist soon. Is this who would help me with this?!? PLEASE! in the meantime i'm stuck in my inlaws basement.... :( financially at this time I am unable to possess a home, but I am saving towards a down payment . Pugs are great apartment dogs, and do quite well in this environment.

Voting Question: offering advise?

why don't people research the facts before they offer advise on this site. I am sick of reading things such as advise on health issues, some information given can be dangerous to the questioner, todayI have seen a Q asked How to receive rid of rats in the garden the answers have varied but the thing that bugs me is when people suggest putting concoctions down which can be deadly for cats dogs birds etc please please if you are going to offer advise please check your facts before doing so for instance one person suggested putting Aspirin another turpintine these would kill a pet wild birds/animals or at least cause an animal a serious problems THINK before you write please To Lauren Sorry about my typing mistake, I admit that sometimes I make mistakes so I apologise to you someone who is obviously perfect and never makes a mistake Yes Lenny you're right the questioner can pick from every the answers submitted but some answers are down right dangerous especially as I say where it's about health or as in the case I refer to pets. there are right and wrong answers and just opinions but if the answer is chosen by the questioner in good faith and the advice is wrong then it can cause serious problems.

Voting Question: Veterinarians are more than doubling the price for animal med ?!?

http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/2007/11/28/cat_got_your_wallet/ watch it!! I had a feeling they were doing this! .. Everything in my vets clinic is just soo expensive, everytime we arrive in we always end up paying about almost a hundred or more than a hundred.. My question is that .. How much do you usually pay for your pets health? I've only had my dog for a year now and i have probably spent probably around 300 or more on her health (vaccinations and stuff), thats a lot of money for me cuz im not wealthy..I still pay for whatever she needs though i just clip down on a lot of stuff and im really irritated that vets do this!! i feel like its so unfair T_T' .. we recently got her groomed and it cost us extra cuz she was matted and they sedated her .. we ended up paying around 160 for everything =S .. man.. some of you ppl are getting cheaper prices cuz u kno the vet or you work with the vet T____T' .. gives me more reason to receive irritated ..urgg, so unfair..I'd never ask for a discount though, the ppl at the clinic always sound so dead serious about everything like they always kno what their talking about its scary they'll prboably eat me if i ask >..> o.o' .. WELL, i DO know that pet stores purchase pup 100 each then sell 800, those are probably the puppy mills but im talking about the VETS!.. its soo ridiculous how are we suppose to take care of animals if their just gonna lift the price for med and other stuff, im sure they make enough to make ends meet.. its so surprising cuz vets are supposed to be professionals and when they do that it makes them look like scammers =S cuz theres no reason for them to increase prices soo much its not like the thing is running out every over the world and its desperately needed that they have to increase prices like crazy =S wth ?! these vets sound like really greedy ppl to me immunization as in vaccinations? omg.. they tell us to vaccinate our dog EVERY month from the first day we brought her to the clinic they said we must arrive every month .. we've done it twice already the deworming and this other one.. that one ur dog really needs though.. but they keep telling us to do it every month !

Voting Question: Has anyone had experience with their Labrador/Dog having a tumor on the spleen?

My dog Allie will be 12 in Dec. She is generally in great health. About 2 weeks ago she wasn't feeling herself and was coughing so I took her to the vet immediately. She had an acute Bronchitis which is now over and she is back to herself. I also got her a complete check up including blood work. To make a long story short, they found a tumor in her spleen. Don't know if it benign or malignant. They want to monitor it very closely to look if it grows. We don't know if the tumor has been there for awhile or if it is a recent tumor. If it grows, it will most likely grow rapidly and it will have to be operated. If it doesn't grow they will wish it just stays as tiny as it is and never causes the dog any hurt. Has anyone out there had this experience with their pet? For any advice/help for me to calm my nerves would be appreciated.
